blog #4

Dreams sometimes fail because we let them. Determination is a key to fulfilling your dreams. I have had the same dream since I was 8, I have always wanted to be able to reach out to millions of people through my music and even though everyone tells me that its almost impossible to be able to become a famous musician, I have the determination to do it. It is the only thing I want to do. If you want something to happen bad enough, then it will. Sometimes we have dreams to give us optimism and no one lately is optimistic anymore. Sometimes dreams fail, because we fail to continue to dream them. Yet at times, when you grow older it seems that your dreams have to be realistic, but I thought that the point of dreams is to dream beyond the stars. To dream beyond what you think is capable. That might be the cause of dreams failing but there are different types of dreams. There are the dreams of things you want to do, that you have to do. And then there are dreams that you dream of just because its nice to dream of something better than where you currently are in that point of your life.

Blog #3 for Of Mice and Men

It is very important for human beings to have a place where they belong because everyone needs that type of environment to be around. If someone lived in a place where they weren’t comfortable, they wouldn’t seem happy and in life, you need to be happy. Life is way too short to waste it away being unhappy in a place that you do not even like. When you are around people that love you, you feel a sense of connection to them and you don’t feel so lonely. Being able to be in a place and knowing someone definitely makes you feel less lonely because then you know that maybe someone is worrying about you and you aren’t completely alone in this world. All it takes is one person to show that they care about you and your life might just turn around for the better. For example, in the book Of Mice and Men, George talks about how much better his life would be without having to deal with Lenny and his problems, but he then realizes how lonely he would be without Lenny. Whether your being taken care of, or taking care of someone else, you still are glad that there is someone there.

A friend.

Being a friend to others is a better quality than having tons of friends. If you can be a friend to others, then others will want to be your friend. Everyone has friends, whether they think it or not. To me, friend is someone I can have fun with. I do not necessarily trust all my friends, but it’s my close friends, my best friends, that I trust with everything. It is hard to find best friends, because trusting someone is difficult for me. A friend is someone who is nice to you and makes sure to include you in things. Being a friend is being able to listen to someone when they are having a hard time and someone who is not going to always tell you what you want to hear, they tell you the truth. It is important to have to have friends because they keep you sane, for me at least. I have had the same two best friends since I was 8 and we are still as close as ever. It’s important for everyone to have friends because everyone needs someone to talk to.

WOmen's objectification

People think that men have begun to treat women as people, not as objects and in some cases that is true. I still see men think with their brain full of stereotypes about women. Women cannot play sports, women should only work in the house, they can’t possibly be smarter than men etc…. I think that men still think of women as objects, because of all these media influences. Media portrays men Sometimes it is not the men’s fault, but mostly they can take the wrap for their actions. Men are constantly, whistling at women and making sexist remarks, trying to act all macho. Women have come a long way since we gained our right to vote and we are just as strong as men, and men need to realize that. First off, the magazine covers and song lyrics are having a huge impact on the way women are viewed. Song lyrics, especially rap, are usually about how much “booty they can get” and it makes us, women, seem like we are pieces of meat. When men see women, they think of how we look, they don’t care if we are smart, or about our personality. All they want to know is if they can get “some”. Most of the objectification of women is used sexually, but not always. Although it is quite difficult to brainstorm ideas on how women are objectified non-sexually. Over the years, women have come a long way and I will say that objectification towards women has decreased over the years. So maybe there is hope for women to be treated equally as men.

Romeo and juliet Reflection

Was it right for Romeo and Juliet to kill themselves because of their love for each other? Why or why not?
I think that if they really truly did love each other, and they believe that they cant live without the other, then they have perfect reasoning to kill themselves. We don’t understand their love for each other, because we were not in their heads during the events of the play, but if what they had was all that they wanted, then they can decide for themselves. When they got married, they promised each other to spend the rest of their lives together, and they did.

Who was ultimately responsible for all of the death that occurred in the play? Why?
There isn’t one person or group of people to blame for the deaths, its simply fate. If there was need to blame something or someone, I would have to say its both of the families. If they had not been such big rivals, then Romeo and Juliet could have gotten married appropriately. Tybalt would not be dead and Juliet’s parents would not have made her marry Paris. Which is she did not have to marry Paris, she would not have to fake her own death, which led to Romeo’s death and Juliet’s true death following.

What do you think of Capulet’s orders that Juliet marry Paris? Was he correct to do so? Why or why not?
I think it was wrong for Capulet to force Juliet to marry Paris. Moreover, I think that Juliet should not have let her father control her like that. He doesn’t seem to care for what might be best for Juliet, he only cares that Paris is rich. If he thinks Juliet is old enough for marriage, then she is clearly old enough to make her own decision.
